A Story About Addiction and Recovery

My client and friend Lori LeFebre-Funa has an inspirational story to tell about addiction and recovery.

My name is Lori and I have been clean and sober for 7 ½ years.

I have always loved running and began running when I was 18 years old. Active addiction robbed me of the ability to run, something I have always loved. It also robbed me of my self-worth, my self-image, self-confidence, and emotional well-being.

At that point in my addiction, I didn’t care if I died. I thought my son was better off without me. This is what addiction can do to you, and I hit rock bottom in July of 2012.

I was able to get the help I needed. For me, desperation was a “gift” at that time in my life. I was willing to go to any lengths to stay clean and sober. I began to run again after 3 months. I also did a lot of soul searching and a lot of the work on myself to get to the root of the problem. Like why I felt like I did about myself.

I also began wanting to push myself and needed more than “just” running. I began to believe in myself further. Mentally, getting stronger and coming to the realization that I have the mindset in which I can do anything I set my mind to.

I began lifting with Chris two years ago, and my whole mindset has gotten even stronger. Chris has pushed me past what I once thought was my furthest limits. This is what I want him to do, what I need him to do. After being in such a dark place in my life and being so ill, I cannot allow any excuse to get in the way of my training with Chris. And because of this mindset, my body has transformed.

Chris has a strong knowledge of nutrition. In fact, Chris is very knowledgeable about all aspects of training. I swear he can see my muscles through my skin when he cues me to perfect my form! His knowledge also goes into the mental side of training and coaching. I believe it from his years as a teacher, that he is able to inspire and find what's wrong on any given day, just by reading my face.

I work in the field of addiction and part of my morning routine is getting to the gym. My job is very stressful at times. Training puts me in a good mindset for the day, and it is a great outlet for me.

Today I can say that my image, my self-worth, and my confidence have improved tenfold!

There is always room for improvement and that is why I continue training with Chris. I can do the training myself, but it helps to have a coach who digs into my mind and pulls the best parts of me out.
